Accessing the Library
Information resources should be readily, equally and equitably accessible to all library users.
NOUN library can be accessed by all users at any given time no matter their location using any device.
The students can access the resources of the library through their virtual learning environment using the link: https://elearn.nouedu2.net/login/index.php. Other library users can also access electronic resources of the library via the library portal: https://nou.edu.ng/library-2/. Users can walk into any of the 35 existing library that is closest to them Monday-Friday from 8am-4pm. Library services to persons with special needs is ongoing in NOUN. To enhance access library orientation video is embedded on the portal. The access link (http://youtu.be/ZfKHs3TQHGw) is available on the students’ virtual learning environment (VLE). Also, library orientation programme for fresh students is ongoing in all study centres at the beginning of every semester.
Usage of the Library
The library is used by undergraduates, postgraduates and researchers for the purpose(s) of learning, research, leisure and general self-development. Find attached statistics of library usage.
NOUN annually subscribes uninterruptedly to Sciencedirect, Research4life, Law Pavilion, ProQuest, Jstor, EbscoHost and Sabinet. It became essential to subscribe to these databases though very expensive to ensure that lecturers, students and researchers in NOUN have unrestricted access to current and quality resources no matter their location and at any time of the day. Lecturers and students find these databases much useful when their URL, user ID and passwords are embedded on their virtual learning environment which is the means of delivering lectures (ie. The virtual class) as opposed to the face-to-face interaction in the conventional universities.
The mode of delivery in any open and distance institution such as NOUN demands a deployment of functional, friendly, interactive and comprehensive website through which the institution offer their various services in order to meet the needs of all library users which may not be necessary in conventional universities. NOUN library for instance offers the following services online:
- Plagiarism testing using turn-it-in and URKUND
- Inter-library loan services
- Ask a Librarian service (Reference service)
- Frequently asked questions
- Donations
- Circulation service
- Information literacy service and other user education services
- Research support services (Data management and collaborative research)
- Institutional Repository
- Current Awareness Services (CAS)
- Selective Dissemination of Information (SDI)
